At Inside Sport, we understand the success of our great champions comes from the support of the weekend warriors and the volunteer army who keep the engine of community sport ticking over. Grassroots sport is the heartbeat of so many Australian communities, bringing people together in healthy competition, keeping them active and building friendships.
But these legends in their own backyards often go unrecognised. So for the second time, our magazine has partnered with the Confederation of Australian Sport, the representative body for 90 national sporting organisations, to find the unsung champions of Australian sport and reward their clubs from a prize pool totalling more than $10,000.
The Clubbies will be presented in five categories:
-Best Sport Association
-Best Masters Performance
We’re not necessarily looking for the club or coach with the most wins or the best performances. We want to reward dedication, integrity and sportsmanship. We want to honour those figures whose stories are repeated around the club, because their stories lift their sport up.
We’ve made some slight changes to the categories for 2016, including two new ones: best sport association, which covers the organisers of leagues and competitions; and best Masters’ performance, for the often superb commitment and pure love of the game that our over-35 sportspeople show.
Nominations close on January 30, with a short-list of nominees appearing in February. Voting continues until April 10, with the winners announced on May 18. Further terms and conditions can be read here
