Newcastle came from a goal down to grab the points, retake the league summit and record their second biggest winover Victory in a commanding performance at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Two former Victory players did most of the damage - Daniel Georgievski scored the equaliser (13') before Nabbout chipped in with a brace (37', 83').

Youngster Joey Champness also got on the scoresheet (75'), vanquishing the demons of last week's missed one-on-one.

Nabbout told Fox Sports: "It’s a massive turnaround from last week. I thought last week we just let Sydney FC come at us.

"Credit to the Victory boys they scored an unbelievable goal early on but things happen and we came back stronger and we scored four of some of the best goals we’ve scored this season."

Victory landed an equisite early opener through Kosta Barbarouses (5') but, in a horror six minutes, lost form centre back Rhys Williams to injury and Mark Milligan to a red card (28') - the Socceroo sent packing for a retaliatory head butt to the chest of former teammate, Georgievski.

Nabbout added: "Coming off a result like this gives us a lot of confidence going into next week (against City). I’ve no doubt we’re going to do the same against them and the same against everyone else in the league."

Nabbout paid tribute to man of the match Dimi Petratos who pulled the strings in attack.

"Dimi is the kind of player that likes to get in those pockets and just makes my life and Roy (O’Donovan’s) life when he’s playing so much easier," he said.

"It’s really easy to have someone like that behind you because they  see runs when not many other people see runs."

Petratos also felt spurred on by the loss to the Sky Blues.

"We just learnt off last week’s performance and we came out this week. Unlucky with the early goal – but we showed a lot of character and a lot of belief in what we came out to do and we got four  goals and a great three points."

Petratos was unlucky not to get a goal himself with a screamer smacking off the crossbar.

"The main thing is we won. Got four great goals. Nabbout got a double which is good – that'll get his confidence up even more – he’s been playing amazing.

"There’s a lot of belief (in the squad). We keep improving every week and we’ve got to continue improving and stay mentally focused more importantly than physically I think.
