So, what are you doing on April 16 and 17?
Singapore is no stranger to hosting world-class sporting events like the world’s first FORMULA 1 night race and the most successful season-ending WTA Finals. It continues to burnish its reputation as an excellent sports destination when it hosts the return of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series over an action-packed weekend next year on April 16 to 17.
Held at the brand new National Stadium, the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens 2016, will feature 16 of the best Rugby Sevens teams from around the globe – from the flamboyant Fijians to the exciting Aussies, the irrepressible New Zealanders and to the South African Blitzboks. Fans will witness some of the best athletes in the world playing fun, free-flowing and entertaining rugby, while enjoying a host of activities around the stadium and around the city that will cater to all in the family.
Singapore last hosted an elite-level Sevens series back in 2002 and 2004-6 at the former National Stadium.
The winning blend of compelling and competitive action – and the festival atmosphere of a Sevens event – is a proven formula that makes Sevens a hit with fans all over the world. A range of fringe activities will be rolled out leading up to the Singapore event including a Sevens tournament for Southeast Asian teams and clinics with rugby legends. Initiatives such as these will help connect a community of both committed and potential rugby fans and will contribute to the advancement and development of the game and players in Singapore and beyond.
With its vision to become the biggest sports, lifestyle and entertainment event in Asia, the Singapore Rugby Sevens promises to deliver a unique experience for spectators from all walks of life through scintillating world-class rugby, great entertainment for the whole family and exciting activities lined up in the Fan Zone at the new iconic National Stadium next April.
Yep – there’ll be something in it for everyone, rain, hail or shine! So get ready to rock, ruck and rumble for a weekend to remember!
