Mile High by Carlton Dry – 4 Star World Snowboard Tour Event

Perisher Blue, 26th – 28th August, 2013

World’s Best Snowboarders primed for Pre-Olympic face off in Australia’s best park.

Snowfall and winter conditions habve cleared over the weekend with perfect conditions forecast for Perisher tomorrow as the biggest International rider field are primed to invade Australia’s best Slopestyle park for the Mile High by Carlton Dry. Talk of the town is not if, but when the triple cork, arguably the most technical current trick in snowboarding, will go down for the first time in Australia - with a rider’s field brimming with the handful of international riders known to have previously pulled it.

In what is all but a dry run for next years inaugural Olympic Slopestyle competition, the combined trophy cabinet of confirmed riders includes in excess of ten X Games Gold Medals, ten Dew Tour Titles and countless World Snowboard Tour event victories. Australia’s best chances to take out the Mile High by Carlton Dry, Scotty James, Cameron Staveley and Robbie Walker are facing a daunting prospect to fend off the International heavyweights in town. Norway’s Torstein Horgmo will be looking to add to his three X Games Gold’s, Dew Tour and World Snowboard Tour event titles but will face stiff competition from compatriots Ulrik Badertscher (Air & Style Beijing, 2nd US Open), Gjermund Braaten (Dew Tour, Freestyle.ch, 3rd Toyota Big Air) Stale Sandbech (current 2nd World Snowboard Tour) and upcoming rookie Emil Ulstletten looking to impress in his break out year.

Canada are all but assured of podium positions fielding a star studded line up with Antoine Truchon (Toyota Big Air, Stylewars Falls Creek), and Charles Reid looking to add another Australian trophy to his Stylewars Title. Not to be ignored, the American contingent boasting one of snowboarding’s most capped riders, Chas Guildemond (World Championships, X-Games Gold, 3x Grand Prix, Dew Tour, US Open, Arctic Challenge, Canadian Open, Toyota Big Air) supported by Sage Kotsenburg (2x XGames Silver) and Seth Hill. Other international riders worth of note filling the 80 plus field include Tor Lundstrom(SWE), Kevin Backstrom(SWE), Billy Morgan(GBR), Rowan Coultas(GBR), Roli Tschoder(AUT), Nick Brown(NZL) and Keitaro Hiroka(JPN).

The Woman’s competition will be equally as hot with three times consecutive XGames Gold winner, Jenny Jones(GBR) fresh off of her 2nd at the New Zealand World Cup last week will look to hold off and Silvia Mittlemuller(GER) looking to local Australian talent of Jess Rich in front of World Snowboard Tour regulars of Silje Norendal(NOR), Brenna Strangeland(CAN) and Michelle Zeller(USA).

With the winter conditions clearing and the imminent threat of triple corks in the forecast, the snowboarding at this year’s Mile High by Carton Dry is guaranteed to be hot. The event starts with an open training session on Monday before the start of the main event in Australian premium snow resort of Perisher.
