The 34-year-old has faced ongoing issues since retiring from rugby league at the end of 2013.

Finch is a popular member of the Channel Nine call team and is not expected back for season 2016.

The former NSW representative opened up about his battle with depression earlier this year after seeking help at a mental health facility.

”I was getting no sense of achievement in anything I was doing in life because I was comparing everything to football,” he said. .

”I knew I had some real struggles with motivation.

”I didn’t want to talk to anyone and that’s probably the biggest thing.

”I made the decision myself. It was an easy [decision] because that’s what I needed. It was a very hard thing to do… from any walk of life, if you’ve got a problem, to sit there and put your hand up and say ‘I need help’ it’s extremely hard.

“Looking back now, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”
