Brad Fittler is set to be unveiled as New South Wales Origin coach.
His appointment is expected to be formally announced following a NSWRL Board Meeting on Friday.
Fittler is up against recently sacked Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire, however, the former Blues star is set to get the green light.
The 45-year-old previously coached the Roosters and more recently mentored Lebanon to a World Cup quarter-final.
Former NSW coach Laurie Daley said Fittler’s Origin experience of 31 matches would be invaluable to his appointment.
"I think it does (help) because it's different to any other game," Daley said on Thursday.
"It's a really big build-up. It's like three grand finals in six weeks and the rollercoaster you have is very emotional.
"If you don't understand it and you get caught up in it you can lose sight and focus."
Daley said he expected big things from the Blues in the near future.
"I think whatever type of coach it is, the players are really good in adapting to different styles and coaches," Daley said.
"They've got a group that are enthusiastic and keen. They are sick of losing and they want to win.
"We couldn't do that this year. It was a great opportunity missed. But they're ready to go and they'll have success."
