Jarryd Hayne’s return to the Eels has been given a significant boost after the ARU all but ruled themselves out of the race to sign him.
Hayne had met with ARU powerbrokers to discuss the prospect of joining the Waratahs, but it seems those talks have broken down.
The former NRL and AFL star is ineligible to play for the Wallabies after representing Fiji in the sevens rugby format, adding wonderment to why the ARU were even entertaining signing the Australian and NSW league representative.
The 28-year-old is believed to be edging close to a return to Parramatta in 2017 with the club set to free well over a million dollars of salary cap space through the removal of third party deals to Anthony Watmough and Kieran Foran as well as the shedding of some players.
Foran requested a release from the final three years of his $4.8 million contract.
