The 28-year-old has hung up the boots due to an arthritic shoulder that has sidelined him since round 13 this year.

The Sunshine Coast junior’s problematic shoulders have been operated on four times with Reed having carried the injuries and played through the pain for the past five years.

The English international amde 126 appearances for Brisbane, five Tests for England and a sole NRL All Stars match.

“It is a disappointing end for Jack but he can be very proud of what he has been able to achieve in his six years at the Broncos,” chief executive Paul White said.

“He came to us on the chance of a pre-season and in one year went from being a Queensland Cup player to a Test representative.

“He also played in an NRL grand final last year.

“We thank Jack for his efforts, and wish him and his lovely young family all the best for the future.”

Reed was off-contract at the end of the season.

He debuted in 2011.
