Australia’s remaining singles French Open representative Sam Stosur says Margaret Court is "digging a very big hole for herself" by continuing to be outspoken about her views on same-sex marriage.
Speaking ahead of her Round of 16 clash with Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko at Roland Garros, the Australian said Court’s comments were not helpful for herself.
Tennis Australia may be forced into removing Court’s name from the Melbourne Park Arena named after her in light of the issue which has drawn widespread criticism, including from Milos Raonic and Martina Navratilova.
“She’s digging a very big hole for herself at the moment,” Stosur said.
“For whatever reason, she wants to keep talking about it and I don’t think she’s making more friends by doing that.
“I think if it continues down this road, then maybe there may be no other option but to do that (change the name).
“But we’ll see. I don’t necessarily think that’s going to happen. I don’t even know who makes the call.
“But she’s not helping herself by making the comments that she’s continually making.”
