Re-live the first-ever edition of the IRB's most prestigious tournament.
With just under a month to go before the eighth edition of the Rugby World Cup, here at Inside Sport we've decided to turn the clock back to the first Cup in 1987, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
There was no such thing as ANZ Stadium, or an all-seater Suncorp Stadium back then, with international rugby clashes staged at places such as Concord Oval in Sydney and Brisbane's Ballymore, which many argue are still the spiritual homes of Australian rugby.
For the Wallabies, the 1987 Cup ended in disappointment after they lost their semi-final against the French at a packed Concord. However, their Trans Tasman rivals, the All Blacks, were victorious over Les Bleus, winning the final 29-9 and hoisting the Web Ellis Cup.
Let's take a trip down memory lane to the first-ever IRB Rugby World Cup via some of the best images captured during the tournament.
