Bennett has in the past moved players on who had signed for new clubs including dropping Justin Hodges to reserve grade after signing with the Roosters in 2001.

Hunt has signed a $6 million deal with the Dragons commencing in 2018.

Bennett has instructed Broncos hierarchy that Hunt will remain at Red Hill for 2017.

Former Dragons captain Mark Coyne backed Hunt’s signing in helping the Red V return to the top of the NRL table.

“I think Ben will be a nice acquisition,” Coyne told The Sunday Telegraph.

“He is a quality player and the fact he is a Queenslander is good.

“I’ve always liked Queenslanders coming to the club.

“I think Ben is a great signing and he will add a lot to the club when he gets there.”
