As his NRL career hangs in the balance, Greg Bird has taken to social media to defend himself against claims he was involved in an alleged incident at a hotel at the weekend during teammate Anthony Don’s bucks party.
Bird was allegedly refused entry to the Hotel Brunswick in northern NSW following an incident with security with the club and the NRL investigating the incident.
The 31-year-old explained his version on social media Wednesday morning.
"I would like to put out the actual version of events from the Saturday night at the Brunswick Hotel in mention" he wrote.
"I was with a group of people on a bucks party and we all were refused entry. I left the premise and someone from our party stayed and got into a physical altercation with the security.
"Me along with everyone else in the group ran into separate the two involved and no one else threw any punches. There is footage and witnesses to verify this."
Bird is no stranger to controversy having been involved in a number of off-field incidents throughout his career.
The NSW and Australian representative was caught urinating beside a police car in Byron Bay during his wedding and was fined $15,000 and stripped of the Titans’ co-captaincy.
He was also charged with drug supply and later acquitted along with several teammates.
Titans CEO Graham Annesley said the club was investigating.
"The club is aware of an investigation currently under way by the NRL Integrity Unit regarding an alleged incident at a hotel in northern NSW last weekend,” he said.
"At this stage those investigations are yet to be completed so the club is not in a position to comment further until the outcome has been determined."
The NRL are believed to be seeking CCTV footage of the incident.
