The Cowboys’ premiership aspirations have been dealt a huge blow with hard man Matt Scott in doubt for Saturday’s crucial match against the Storm.
Scott is battling a broken finger while his fellow co-captain Johnathan Thurston is racing to overcome a corked thigh suffered against the Titans at the weekend.
Both players missed Monday’s NRL Finals launch with bullocking lock Jason Taumololo taking their place.
Scott missed the clash against the Gold Coast and Taumalolo admitted the Maroons ace was no certainty to take to AAMI Park for the preliminary final qualifying match.
“JT should be right to play, Thumper (Scott) is still touch-and-go with his finger,” Taumalolo said.
“Fingers crossed he can show up on Saturday night.”
“It just doesn’t end - he had back and neck surgery a couple of years ago, he’s a battler that’s for sure.
“It’s nothing different to what he does on the field. To have him in the side will be a huge confidence boost for us.”
