Former NRL player Anthony Watts took police on a high speed chase and has been charged with assaulting and intimidating an elderly man.
It is alleged Watts threatened a 73-year-old man in Northern NSW on Thursday afternoon before fleeing in a Holden Monaro.
He was spotted by police which prompted a chase, however, Watts managed to evade authorities.
He was eventually arrested about 8pm Thursday night and remanded in custody until Friday’s court appearance.
The former Sharks and Cowboys player was involved in several off-field incidents during his playing days and was sacked by the Roosters in 2011 without playing a game for the Eastern Suburbs club after an incident with fellow NRL bad boy Todd Carney.
He then headed to England to play for Widnes but managed just one game before heading back to Australia.
He has not played professionally since and has had stints in jail in recent years.
