Former NRL referee Paul McBlane has died of a heart attack aged 53.
His refereeing career was cut short in the nineties due to a heart condition.
He had battled health issues for some time.

“He died in his sleep Tuesday night, he just never woke up,” a friend of McBlane told Rugby League Week.
“We are all devastated – he was a champion bloke.”
