Paul Gallen has confirmed he will extend his NRL career into a 17th season in 2017.
The Cronulla skipper said he intended to finalise a new one-year contract with the Sharks in the coming weeks.
He said he wanted the new deal sorted before the NRL finals so he can concentrate on Cronulla's push for a maiden premiership.
Gallen made the comments at the launch of the Sydney Darts Masters at Star City on Thursday.
The NSW captain will be 36 at the end of next season.
The Sharks entered the NRL in 1967 and have played in three losing grand finals.
