The Gold Coast Suns have confirmed experienced defender Jarrod Harbrow won’t be available for selection against Hawthorn this weekend after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Harbrow had been drinking at home on Sunday evening and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.108 when apprehended by Queensland Police.
The news comes following Gold Coast’s breakthrough three-point win over West Coast on Saturday which snapped a run of two defeats, including their poor 72-point loss to Port Adelaide in China which drew criticism.
Suns general manager of football Marcus Ashcroft said: "Jarrod has expressed to us that he is extremely embarrassed by his actions and understands his poor judgement has let many people and his club down.
"In the next period of time Jarrod will have to work hard to regain the trust and respect of his teammates, peers and the wider Gold Coast community.
"On top of the legal sanctions to be imposed in due course, we can confirm that Jarrod will be unavailable for senior selection this week.
“The club will hold further discussions with Jarrod and finalise its penalty following consultation with senior management and the player leadership group.”
The 28-year-old former Western Bulldogs defender is one of Gold Coast’s more senior players but isn’t part of their leadership group.
Harbrow finished second in Gold Coast’s best and fairest last season, behind Tom Lynch.
He has played eight games this season and is averaging 25.5 disposals per match.
