Usman Khawaja says his public pot shot at selectors was blown out of proportion ahead of Australia’s opening Test against South Africa.
Khawaja last week criticised selectors for making he and Joe Burns the “scapegoats” following a miserable Test series against Sri Lanka after the pair were dropped for the third Test.
“It was blown out of proportion, and from my point of view it didn’t really bother me too much because I knew it was blown out of proportion,” he said.
“It’s one of those things where I’ve moved past it and I’m sure they have too.
“My intention wasn’t to pot anyone, I didn’t name any names. It’s just the way the article came out.”
Khawaja was subsequently recalled, but not without copping a barb from slector Rod Marsh.
“He (Khawaja) probably opened his mouth before his brain had got working," Marsh said.
