A brace of dedicated rugby league disciples are among the finalists in our five categories – Best Club, Best Coach, Best Stalwart, Best Sports Association and Best Masters Performance.

Greenbank Rugby League Football Club, based in Queensland, is a finalist in the Best Club category, while Glen Evans, a loyal servant for the Coomera Cutters Junior Rugby League Club, is also in the running for the Maroon state. Glen is a finalist in the Best Stalwart section of The Clubbies.

Rounding out rugby league’s representation among the awards’ finalists is Michael Doodson of Penrith Referees, who is also a Best Stalwart finalist.

At Inside Sport, we understand the success of our great champions comes from the support of the weekend warriors and the volunteer army who keep the engine of community sport ticking over. Grassroots sport is the heartbeat of so many Australian communities, bringing people together in healthy competition, keeping them active and building friendships.

But these legends in their own backyards often go unrecognised. Our magazine has partnered with the Confederation of Australian Sport, the representative body for 90 national sporting organisations, Polar and The Net Return High Performance Training Nets, to find the unsung champions of Australian sport and reward their clubs from a prize pool totalling more than $10,000.

We’re not necessarily looking for the club or coach with the most wins or the best performances. We want to reward dedication, integrity and sportsmanship. We want to honour those figures whose stories are repeated around the club, because their stories lift their sport up.

Voting continues until April 10, with the winners announced on May 18. CLICK HERE to vote for your favourite grassroots sport finalists now!
