Brisbane has sacked coach Justin Leppitsch.
Leppitsch did not attend the meeting and was advised via telephone.
Fox Sports have reported players were informed of the club’s decision via a message from football boss Matthew Francis.
Directors and members arrived at the Gabba on Monday morning to make a decision on Leppitsch’s fate as Brisbane’s coach.
Lions chaiman Bob Sharpless said
“We extended his contract at the start of this year because we believed we were heading in the right direction, but this season has not panned out the way we expected to,"
“We needed to do something about.”
The Lions let in an average of 130.5 points per game this season.
Leppitsch has managed just 14 wins from three seasons, with the club finishing 15th (7-15, 2014), 17th (4-18, 2015) and 17th (3-19, 2016) under his watch.
Brisbane’s 2016 campaign concluded on Sunday afternoon with a 58-point loss to St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
