The thought of Cooper Cronk hitting the open market has put the fear into halves across the NRL with James Maloney summing up the champion half’s impending move to Sydney beautifully.
News broke of Cronk’s release from the Storm just moments before the Sharks’ press call.
Journalists asked the two-time premiership-winner for his thoughts on where Cronk may go.
“Where’s he going?” Maloney asked. “Cronulla? Sh-t I might be out of a job.”
“I’ll have to go and talk with me manager. I might have to find a club then. I’m surprised I’m on the market because I thought I had another year to go. I guess we’ll have to wait and see."

But on a serious note, Maloney was full of admiration for Cronk who he played against in last year’s grand final which Cronulla won.
“I have been in almost every jersey and he’s only been in one,” Maloney said. “I think that’s just the nature of footy and nothing’s really guaranteed.”
“You know if he comes into a club he runs a very organised set-up. He’ll control things and you’ll know what you’ll get each week. He’ll run the side around.”
