The Sea Eagles cut 17 players from their 2016 squad in a massive shedding of players.
The club made the announcement just hours after their 36-6 mauling at the hands of Penrith in their last game of the season.
The list includes NRL stalwarts Nathan Green, Josh Starling, Jayden Hodges, Tony Satini, Blake Leary and Isaac John.
It is understood veteran fullback Brett Stewart could be released from the final year of his deal.
The 31-year-old missed several games this year through injury and has been considerably down on form.
Centre Steve Matai may also be released for 2017 due to an ongoing neck injury.
