Storm fullback Cameron Munster says his side must come out firing against Canberra in Saturday night’s grand final-qualifier and set the pace from the outset.
Melbourne is notorious for its explosive starts and have the ability to blow teams away early.
And the Victorians will be fresh after enjoying the weekend off following their opening semi-final victory over the Cowboys.
The break allowed players to rest the niggling injuries that arise after a long season, with any edge at this stage of the year a major boost.
Canberra was put through its paces in their 22-12 win over Penrith with several players nursing injuries before and after the match which the Storm are certain to target.
Melbourne is set to inject its freshness from the opening whistle as it attempts to gain early ascendency.
"We have to start really well and have a lot of energy in the first 10 minutes and I guess we’ll go from there,” Munster said.
"We know we have to go really well to annihilate them and nullify as much space as we can from them, but also not giving the forward pack momentum in the first 10 minutes. We need to start strong.”
Canberra’s backs have been the most damaging in the competition headed by the dangerous right-side combination of Joey Leilua and Jordan Rapana.
Munster said his troops must contain the backs or face the consequences.
“They have got good players all over the park. They have got Jordan Rapana and Leilua on that who have been damaging this year," he said.
“They have also got Jarrod Croker and Edrick Lee on the other side so they have a strong back five.
“We have to play well because they have been in some pretty good form this year.”
