Immortal trainers, fans and mascots are some of the categories rugby league Twitter has suggested – nay demanded – via this week’s Dead In Goal NRL podcast.
After wondering whether the time-honoured Immortals concept and the new NRL Hall of Fame were enough to recognise the best-ever people in rugby league, the Inside Sport crew of James Smith and Jeff Centenera threw out the question for this week’s episode: what category of Immortal needs to be recognised – who would you nominate first for your new category?
The team received some fantastic responses, all of which will be sent posthaste via carrier pigeon to Rugby League Central in Moore park, or if that’s not possible, DM-ed to the powers that-be via Twitter.

Among the suggestions offered up by the podcast’s respondents were the aforementioned Immortal Trainer category, with Full Credit To The Boys podcast co-host Former Legend offering up The Cougar, aka Ronny Palmer as his first nominee.
Another quality suggestion offered was Immortal Jersey Sponsorships. In his new category, rugby league scribe and fanatic Steven Russo will nominate Phillips, Penfolds, Smiths Crisps and City Ford.
Meanwhile, perhaps rather selfishly, Fake Dave Smith also chimed in, suggesting the league create an Immortal CEO category. No prizes for guessing who he’d nominate first.
There’s plenty more jibber to enjoy on this week’s episode, so dive in.
