Titans boss Graham Annesley says he’s blindsided by talk of Jarryd Hayne’s requested release.
The Daily Telegraph reported Hayne’s agent Wayne Beavis had notified the club the star fullback was hoping to return to Sydney, however, Annesley said he was unaware Hayne wanted out.
Hayne is contracted for 2018 on a deal worth a reported $1.2 million, an option he activated last season.
However, now the NSW representative wants out despite his rift with former Titans coach Neil Henry significantly contributing to his sacking.
Garth Brennan has since been appointed with Hayne's former Eels assistants Hayden Knowles and Craig Catterick brought in as Brennan’s offsiders.
"We haven't been asked for a release from Jarryd Hayne, so there's nothing I can add to it," Annesley told Fairfax.
"We haven't seen him since the season ended, he's been on holidays and then Fijian duties. There's been no request for a release, as far as we're concerned he is a Titans contracted player. It's completely blindsided me, the whole story."
This is just the latest in a long saga between Hayne and the Gold Coast since he joined the club towards the end of the 2016 season.
