The 37-year-old copped a sickening blow to the head in a recent South African tour and subsequently missed the next match, however, it is believed he would have been dropped anyway after a slow start to the series.

He will feature in WA’s day-night Shield clash with Queensland starting Monday.

But even if he scores a swag of runs he admits selection for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan is probably out of reach.

“I think it’s going to be tough, to be honest,” Voges said.

“I always felt that at my age if I missed any games through injury or form, getting my spot back was always going to be tough.

“It is what it is. I’m just looking forward to playing for WA on Monday.”

Voges’ current Test average after 20 matches is an admirable 61.87.
