North Queensland's new $250 million stadium in South Townsville is underway – and set to be open in time for the start of the new 2020 season.
New drone footage released by Queensland State Government (above) shows construction work advancing on the 25,000-seat state of the art stadium.
The project is supported by both North Queensland Cowboys and the NRL, but was sparked by Football Federation Australia's fated 2022 FIFA World Cup bid which identified the need for it.
An initial design for a $185m 30,000-seat stadium was effectively scrapped in 2012, but a new plan was given the green light after the Cowboys won the Premiership and Federal Government matched the state government funding.
Here's what it should look like once it's complete.
