Fast, physical and finely skilled: a pictorial look at the Sydney Ice Dogs of the Australian Ice Hockey League.
In the June edition of Inside Sport, we journeyed to Vancouver to take in a NHL game. As expected, we found ice hockey to be among the great spectator sports (don't worry, you eventually learn to follow the puck).
But you don't have to go all the way to Canada just to enjoy the sport. The Australian Ice Hockey League is an eight-team national competition which competes through the winter. The two Sydney sides, the Ice Dogs and the Bears, sold out their season opener in late April.
The Sydney Derby goes off again on June 10 at Macquarie Ice Rink, with the puck dropping at 5pm.
