Lewis Hamilton was a controversial winner of the Canadian Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver finishing second on the road behind Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel but inheriting the win after Vettel was given a post-race five-second penalty. Vettel received the penalty for what Stewards deemed as an unsafe re-entry to the track after the Ferrari slid off the circuit. The error occurred while Hamilton was chasing the Ferrari, the two cars almost colliding as Vettel rejoined the race.
