TOUCH FOOTBALL: A SNAPSHOT
The game of touch football has its origins as a non-contact training format for rugby league. These days, it is a highly organised, physically demanding sport in its own right, keeping Australians feeling fit and fantastic year-round through a multitude of competitions.
On the most recent figures, there are more than 624,000 regular participants playing in a plethora of locations. The way touch football is played today, this is no “soft option” or substitute format: this sport demands great aerobic fitness, terrific skill and fantastic teamwork. Competitions cover every age division, from juniors through to masters, in a variety of formats, involving both sexes, including mixed competitions. Games tend to be short and sharp, dramatic and exciting – and completely exhausting! Australia also happens to rule the world, with recent successes at the sport’s World Cup in both men’s and women’s.
