The 120-game player announced the news via social media on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old has endured an injury-interrupted 2016 season to play just two top flight games, the last of which was in Round 12 against Adelaide.

Ellis suffered another calf setback playing for East Perth at the weekend before deciding it was time to hang up the boots.

“I’m done!! Thank you all involved for the 11 tremendous years,” Ellis posted on Tuesday afternoon.

“Amazing highs and a few too many lows but was well worth the work.

“These legs need a rest now.”

Ellis debuted for the Hawks in 2007 before shifting to West Coast in 2014.
