The 29-year-old ends his career at Arden Street having played 151 games including 13 in 2017.

Hansen joined the Kangaroos in 2006 with the club’s second highest draft pick – No.3.

Playing the majority of his junior football as a defender, Hansen earned an Under 18 All-Australian selection as a centre half back, reading the play well and also being able to run off opponents with extraordinary endurance.

Hansen debuted in the royal blue and white stripes in Round 1, 2007 against Collingwood and took time to develop playing just three games that season, including a semi-final win against Hawthorn – his first win as an AFL player.

“Lachy quickly forged a reputation as an excellent intercept mark in the AFL and formed a solid backline alongside the likes of Robbie Tarrant, Michael Firrito and Scott Thompson,” North coach Brad Scott said.

Since his debut, Hansen played in six finals with North including an elimination final, semi-final and preliminary final in 2015.

“Lachy has been a delight to coach and has been one of the most dynamic, versatile players in the league. His ability to play forward or back for us was a tremendous asset to the team,” Scott said.

“He’ll be sorely missed around the club and was one of those unique characters. His ability to keep morale up during this year in particular was first-class and I wish him all the best for whatever comes next for him and his family.”
