The Melbourne Renegades are expected to be without superstar Dwayne Bravo who suffered a hamstring injury in the loss to the Perth Scorchers on Thursday night.
The West Indies star fell awkwardly at the boundary while saving a scorching shot from Michael Klinger which saw his legs buckle underneath him in the 11th over off the BBL fixture.
He will undergo scans on Friday but is expected to be sidelined for an extended period.
"It doesn't look great," skipper Aaron Finch said.
"He'll have a scan on Friday and we'll have a clearer idea of the damage.
"If he is ruled out for the tournament it's an unbelievably damaging blow for us but also for him to miss the tournament - we know how much he loves coming here.
"It would be a huge blow ... he's one of the best allrounders in the world."
Bravo managed to bowl just one over (of four) with Finch picking up the slack admirably.
With the Scorchers needing nine from the last over, the skipper, a part-time spinner, stepped up dismissing Mitch Marsh then Adam Voges before a last-ball full toss that Ashton Agar smashed for six with just three runs needed to win.
"We nearly pulled one out of the hat there, we didn't really have many other options, but with Dwayne only bowling his one over it was pretty unfortunate," Finch said.
