Once lauded for his on-field prowess which earned him the nickname ‘T-Rex’, Williams has fallen way short of the success he enjoyed after bursting on the scene with Manly in 2009 before going on to claim the 2011 premiership with the Sea Eagles.

He spent another year on the Northern Beaches before joining his former Manly mentor Des Hasler at Belmore from 2013, however the 193cm/ 120kg wrecking ball never quite hit his straps in the Blue and White.

He was finally dropped to reserve grade this year with Canterbury not offering him an extension to his four-year mulit-million dollar deal.

But the Sharks are circling and willing to take a punt on the 27-year-old giant in the hope they can turn his career around, possibly at cost price given his lack of NRL interest.

Williams was expected to join St Helens in the Super League but those plans appear to be on hold.
