Manly players are supporting John Cartwright as their new coach next season when Trent Barrett leaves the club.
Barrett has handed in his resignation and is expected to depart at the end of this season.
Cartwright is Barrett's assistant and a former NRL head coach. The 53-year-old spent eight years in charge of the Gold Coast Titans.
Des Hasler, Geoff Toovey, Michael Maguire and Neil Henry have all been linked to the Sea Eagles job for 2019.
But Manly's players have voiced their want for Cartwright to take the reins.
"We love Baz and it's unfortunate the situation we find ourselves in," Tom Trbojevic said.
"But if he isn't here we have someone at the club ready to take control. The boys have a lot of respect for Carty. He understands what we've been through and has a great relationship with everyone here.
“He's got my support to coach this club if Baz isn't here."
