Ivan Cleary says he would be interested in signing Matt Moylan should he become available.

Reports Moylan wants out of Penrith won’t go away with his relationship with coach Anthony Griffin said to be frosty.

The 26-year-old has been granted indefinite leave for personal reasons and is not expected to take part in the finals.

Cleary coached the fullback come five-eighth while in charge at the Panthers and holds him in the highest regard.

"My understanding is he wants to stay and has never stated he wants to leave," Cleary said.

"But would I be interested? Yes. I rate him as a player and a person.

"(But) that hasn't happened yet and it's speculation.

"I really enjoyed coaching him and have kept a relationship with him since.

"I find him a terrific kid, great player, well-known local junior and (he) made an immediate impact.

"I'm not privy to all the information but hope it works out well for Matt because I've got a lot of time for him."
