Wests are in meltdown after the sacking of coach Jason Taylor as the club scrambles to retain its four biggest stars.

Mitchell Moses, Luke Brooks, Aaron Woods and James Tedesco are all off contract this year with the Tigers desperate to keep them.

Elias said he agreed with Taylor’s axing but said Go had to leave.

Go was appointed by former NRL boss David Smith after the NRL bailed the club out of financial ruin.

“You need a strong leader. Phil Rothfield said Marina Go’s got to go and I’ve got to agree with you,” Elias told Fox Sports.

“ ... David Smith appointed her to come to the club. He’s the one who put her on the board and made her the chairman of our great club and today we are paying for it every second of it and it’s killing us.”

Elias compared the clubs’ so-called “Big Four” to that of the Storm and said the club must do all it could to keep them for the long term.

“Look at the Melbourne Storm, you see Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater — those (off-contract Wests Tigers) players are that good,” Elias said.

“(The Storm) built an empire around those players and we’ve got the same opportunity here.

“This is the backbone of the future of the club and it’s important we keep these players.”
