The Adelaide Crows returned to the Adelaide Oval for the first time since the tragic death of senior coach Phil Walsh, ready for a "Showdown" with rivals Port Adelaide, with both sides paying tribute to a man who has done so much for both Adelaide footy clubs. In the tightest showdown ever it was the Crows who would come out victorious 116-113 as they now move into the top eight.

Cousins Nick and Jack Riewoldt paid tribute to Nick's younger sister Maddie in Maddie's Match that saw a record Etihad Stadium crowd for the season paint Docklands a sea of purple. It was cousin Jack, who came out on top though as Richmond defeated the Saints by 16 points.

In a re-match of last years grand final Hawthorn smashed the Swans by 89 points at ANZ Stadium, whist the GWS Giants continue their push to make the finals defeating the Gold Coast Suns 94-79 away from home.

Fremantle and West Coast continue to sit at the top of the ladder after wins over Carlton and Collingwod respectively. Meanwhile North Melbourne, Geelong and the Demons also were victorious in Round 16.
