Cronulla supremo Michael Ennis says Paul Gallen will play in Friday night’s preliminary final against the Cowboys in a huge boost to his side’s premiership aspirations.
Gallen pulled up sore following a training session a fortnight ago and spent the ensuing five days in bed nursing a back injury.
He was eventually ruled out of the Sharks’ 16-14 win over Canberra with fears he may not return this season.
But Ennis put fans in the Shire at ease after confirming the inspirational captain got through Monday’s training session unscathed.
“He trained really well and will be right and he is a tough warrior,” Ennis said.
“He knows these opportunities don’t come around too often.
“He knows how important he is to our side and fortunately his back’s come good and hopefully he can get through the next few days.”
Ennis said the week off had been beneficial to his side preparations as they continued their quest for a maiden premiership.
“It has been handy for guys like Gal (Gallen), and Wade (Graham) who copped a knock in Canberra,” he said.
“A few of the guys have got some bumps.”
