Farah was accused of stifling the Tigers’ attack while playing alongside Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks which led to Jason Taylor banishing him to reserve grade for most of last year.

Farah has been named to start at hooker in his NRL debut for Souths with Maguire looking to use the crafty rake’s vast skill set around the ruck.

But the No.9 will not be given free reign with Cody Walker and Luke Kelly to run proceedings in the absence of premiership-winning halfback Adam Reynolds who will miss the first month of the season with injury.

“It is about the team and he (Farah) has shown that in the way he’s gone about his training,” Maguire said. “He’s worked very closely with everyone and has got the combinations with Greg and Sam and those blokes have all come together really well in the pre-season.

“I’ll definitely use his skill set and he is obviously very good around the markers and he can tie in a lot of defenders. He can also run and he’s obviously a good defender too, so there are a lot of quality around what he does."

Maguire said the acquisition of the NSW hooker would not change the way his side plays.

“It doesn’t entirely change the way we play but it definitely brings a new skill set to us,” Maguire said. “He’s very crafty around the markers and he is very skilful at seeing how the game is going to play out. He obviously brings a lot to our size and our forwards and we like to roll through the middle.”
