Australia’s Madeleine Fasnacht has claimed a World Championship bronze medal in the junior women’s time trial event in Norway.

Fasnacht, from Tasmania, rode superbly to clock 24mins 2.04secs for the 16.1km Bergen course, behind winner Elena Pirrone and second-place Alessia Vigilia.

The race took place in torrential rain and Fasnacht did brilliantly to post such a fast time, while other riders struggled in the conditions.

Young British rider Lauren Dolan completed the course despite suffering sickening injuries in a nasty crash.

The 17-year-old went down heavily in the wet and cut her leg badly. But Dolan ignored the blood and the pain to get straight onto a replacement bike to finish the race.

Video footage as she crossed the line showed her bibs torn to shreds and at least two deep gashes in her right leg.

Dolan was then treated by medical staff and put on a stretcher, but it is believed her injuries are not serious – although she has been ruled out of the junior women’s road race later this week.

In the men's Under-23 time trial, Australia's Callum Scotson was fifth, just four seconds off a podium place in an event won by Danish teenager Mikkel Bjerg.
