The Melbourne Rebels captain’s attention turned to the Big Bash League where he has enjoyed a strong season.

Once regarded as the best one-day batsman in the world, Finch lost his way with three sub-par performances against New Zealand last month.

But after being recalled to the Australian side for a three-match series against New Zealand, Finch is ecstatic to be back in the national team.

“Being dropped, it gives you a chance to look back and reflect and analyse your game a little bit more than if you just roll from series to series,” Finch said.

“It’s always a bit of a rollercoaster when you get dropped. You see your career going down the drain ... and you wonder if you’ll get your spot back.”

David Warner and Usman Khawaja have been left out of the ODI team as they prepare for the India Test tour.

Finch said he believed his form warranted a recall.

“I thought I played quite well during the Big Bash, to be fair,” Finch said.

“I felt like I was hitting the ball really nice and my thought process was really clear.”
