Brad Fittler says he would draw on Phil Gould’s success if he were to claim the vacant NSW State of Origin coaching position.
Fittler is in the box seat to take over as coach following Laurie Daley’s sacking after five years at the helm.
Daley claimed just won series win in that time.
Fitter is considered one of the Blues’ greatest ever players and has coached City to the past two wins.
He has also had success with the NSW under-18 and under-16 teams but is up against credentialed coaches Dean Pay and Geoff Toovey.
Fittler said should he get the gig, he would do all he could to emulate Gould’s coaching style.
"I always go back to Phil Gould, Phil Gould had a real knack of picking people that he knew would get on and go hard," Fittler told Wide World of Sports.
"From what I gather, I think they've got to have another board meeting.
"I think they have another board meeting in a couple of weeks so I think then that will be the process of how we go getting a coach.
"As of now it's still a down time, absorbing all the information and the news, and that's from everyone's point of view."
Fittler said he was confident the Origin tide was turning despite Queensland claiming 11 of the past 12 series.
"There's some really good kids coming through, they're doing a good job, it's just about making sure they go through clear-headed," Fittler said.
"You don't need everyone coming through with a burden of what our latest record is
"It seems to be affecting the way we play especially in the big games where we have a chance to win. Seven series have gone down to the last game and we're none from seven. That's something we most probably need to address."
