Take a trip back in time with us to Singapore's first event.
The next stop on the IRB World Sevens Series World Tour sees Singapore host its first Sevens event after a decade’s absence.
Singapore last hosted the world’s premier Sevens series in 2002 and between 2004 and 2006 at the former National Stadium, with the 2016 edition set to take place at the newly built 55,000-seat capacity NEW National Stadium, which features a retractable roof and all the latest technology fit for all entertainment and sporting needs, making it one of the premier stadiums in the world ... RAIN, HAIL or SHINE!
To get the Singapore party started, here at Inside Sport we thought we would take a trip down memory lane back to the first-ever Sevens event to take place in Singapore.
Back to the year 2002, where Brazil were celebrating winning the FIFA World Cup, the Roosters reigned supreme in the NRL, Brisbane Lions went back-to-back, a young Aussie kid called Lleyton Hewitt won at Wimbledon, Harry Potter was smashing box office records .... OHHH and it was also the year, the Wallabies won the Bledisloe Cup ... honest!
Check out the gallery above to see how Singapore 2002 went down. Enjoy!
