NSWRL are set to appoint Laurie Daley’s replacement at a board meeting next month as the Blues attempt to end the Maroons’ stranglehold, which has seen them claim 11 of the past 12 series.

Gould is considered the greatest ever NSW coach and has been somewhat reluctant to get involved in recent years while Johns is arguably the greatest player to don the sky blue jersey.

Both would add significant clout to the coaching ranks and Fittler says they are at the ready should he get the gig.

“Staff would be part of the discussion, and there are people like Gus and Joey that I’ve spoken to that would love to be a part of NSW going forward,” Fittler told AAP .

“I’ve got a relationship with every coach who has coached NSW going back to Ron Willey (in 1986).

“Every other coach I’ve been coached by or have been part of their organisation. Being part of all that, being able to grab a little bit of everyone would be a nice result.”

NSWRL chairman George Peponis said having Johns and Gould on board was a huge boost.

“It’s a good proposition, but as I said we will make that decision,” Peponis said.

“We will sit down and chat to Freddie and others over the next couple of weeks.

“He’s played State of Origin, he’s been an NRL coach, he’s also been part of our development program with the under-16s, under-18s and under-20s.

“So he ticks a lot of boxes. But that is a decision that will be made over the next couple of weeks.”

David Furner, John Cartwright and Michael Maguire are other reported candidates for the position.
