The Broncos were believed to be hopeful of luring the star to Red Hill to finish out his career, but the 29-year-old will remain at Redfern.

Inglis was instrumental in helping South Sydney to the 2014 NRL Premiership and is regarded as one of the best players in the game.

“This is a wonderful club to be part of, a great team to play with, and I’m really happy to know what my family’s future holds for the next four years,” Inglis said.

“This Club has a history of success and I’m confident that as a group we are going to be able to add to that success in the coming years.”

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire said Inglis’ long-term commitment to the club was a massive boost for its future.

“Greg is not only a phenomenal footballer, as his playing record shows, but he is also becoming one of the great leaders in our game and in society,” he said.

“It’s great news for the team, the club and the whole South Sydney community to know that Greg will be part of us at least until the end of 2020.”
