Michael Jennings has explained why he knocked back a big-move money to Newcastle.
The Knights were keen to lure Jennings north during the off-season.
But the former NSW and Kangaroos centre rebuffed their advances to see out the final year of his contract with Parramatta.
Jennings had a disappointing season in 2018 as the Eels claimed the wooden spoon.
"There was a more extended deal at a new club," the 30-year-old told AAP.
"But ultimately I just wanted to back my ability and I just had unfinished business here. I didn't want to leave the club on a bad year, I wanted to leave something good behind.
"I wanted to see this team succeed from when I first came to Parramatta and I still believe that this team can be successful."
