North Melbourne midfielder Sam Gibson has copped a 20kg barbell to the head in a training mishap on Wednesday.
Gibson was rushed to hospital and received a broken nose and gash to his face.
He was cleared of any facial fractures.
“He’s not OK no, he’s pretty sore at the moment,” Kangaroos coach Brad Scott said.
“The fortunate thing was it happened here, it happened with our club doctor here, but he was sent to hospital to rule out any other facial fractures.
“He’s a bit uncomfortable, but we’re still really optimistic he’ll be available to play this week.”
The Kangaroos host the Swans on Saturday.
