The F1 fleet at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix will take on a new look - in more ways that one.
F1 cars will take on a fresh new look at Spain not just because of the various aerodynamic changes the teams traditionally make for the first European Grand Prix, but because of new look race numbers and driver identification.
In mandating larger numbers, the FIA is enforcing an existing regulation rather than implement a new one.
The clarification of the rule will see teams run side mounted race numbers at least 230mm high, with additional three-letter driver identification alongside, 150mm high.
The numbers on the front of the car have also been increased to match the new requirements.
Most teams will use the controversial ‘shark fin’ centreline panel as the location for the larger number and driver identification.
