Lions captain Tom Rockliff has slammed his club’s sub-par training facilities in a recent rant.
Rockliff said the team was forced to train without sunlight and “battling” with the amenities at their disposal.
“No they’re not (up to AFL standard). They haven't changed since 2000, if you think about that it’s 16 years,” Rockliff told RSN on Wednesday.
“We’re below ground the whole time, we don’t have any sunlight in there.
“The gym only got a makeover because it flooded last year.
“We’re battling a fair bit with the facility. It is always a challenge to compete at the highest level.
“If you have a good facility, I know it’s not the be-all and end-all, I think that a good culture drives that, but the facility definitely helps that.”
The Lions are set to purchase land near the Brisbane Airport for a new training and administration facility.
The AFL will tip in $5 million for the project.
The Lions sit 17th after winning just two games in 2016.
